Learn To Manage What You Have With A Budget
Posted 8 March 2010
What do a bank, sock, cookie jar, envelope and a mattress have in common? If you said, "places where folks keep their dough," then you are right on the money.

“Failure to manage money properly has led to an epidemic of credit debt and bankruptcy filings,” says Erin Ludwig, Iowa State University Extension Family Resource Management Specialist.  “A good way to avoid the credit trap is to learn tools and skills that will help you manage your finances.”

An online, 3-hour personal financial management series will be offered beginning April 5, 2010.  The curriculum will be arranged as follows:

Week one:  This week will cover setting goals, managing unexpected and periodical expenses, and savings.

Week two:  This week will talk about tracking spending, creating a budget, decreasing expenses and increasing income.

Week three:  This final week shows different methods of tracking spending, managing risk, managing credit, and saving for retirement.

Requirements for this class are:

1.     Computer with internet access to take the class

2.    Ability to print class materials received via email

The program will meet for one hour at 12:00 noon or at 5:00 pm on Monday, April 5, 12 and 19.  If you miss one class, or would like to review a session, you will receive information as to how to view the recorded class.  By registering, participants will receive class materials via email as well as the web address with instructions on how to log in.

For more information or registration forms, contact Erin Ludwig at 563-380-1475 or eludwig@iastate.edu.  Preregister by phone, email or mail by April 1, 2010.
