''Mysterious China'' Film Exhibition at UNI February 10-11
Posted 5 February 2010
The University of Northern Iowa's Chinese Student and Scholar Association (CSSA) will host Chris Nebe, award-winning documentary filmmaker, to speak on the past and present of Tibet on Wednesday, Feb. 17. Nebe will speak at 10:15 a.m. and at 3:15 p.m. in the Maucker Union Ballroom, with open discussions following each session. The events are free and open to the public.

"The university has been making great efforts to provide a democratic and multicultural environment for student learning and encourages American students to learn more about the world and other countries," said CSSA President Nan Liang. "In order to provide the university community with a different perspective on Tibet and the Dalai Lama, we've invited Nebe to deliver a speech on Tibet, its past and present."

In conjunction with Nebe's visit, students and community members can view free screenings of Nebe's documentaries. Two "Mysterious China" film exhibitions will take place from 8:30 to 10 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 10 and 11, at the Center for Multicultural Education in UNI's Maucker Union. The exhibition will show three of his films: "Marco Polo's Roof of the World," "Marco Polo's Silk Road" and "Holy Mountain."

Nebe has been exploring China's history, culture and society for 15 years. As president of Monarex Hollywood Corporation, he has many years of experience in the international entertainment industry as a producer, director, writer and distributor. During his time in Germany, he distributed 150 motion pictures by critically acclaimed directors including Ron Howard, Roger Corman, Paul Bartel, Kaneto Shindo and Jonathan Demme. As producer, some of his credits include "Heartbreaker," "Rebels," the award-winning film "The Inheritors" and seven films in the "Mysterious China" franchise.

Nebe's visit is supported by UNI's Dalai Lama Steering Committee, Northern Iowa Student Government, CSSA and the Chinese Association of Northern Iowa.
