Olympic Gold Medal Winner Returns to Iowa

Gold-medal gymnast Shawn Johnson of
West Des Moines, returned to Iowa yesterday, Tuesday, Aug. 26, after
gaining world-wide exposure at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
An estimated crowd of 7,000 packed Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines last
night to greet her as she returned home.
Johnson’s arrival capped a week of international travel and media
appearances since she earned three silver medals and a gold medal in
the Olympic gymnastics competition.
Johnson taped the Late Show with David Letterman on Monday and is now
heading today to the Democratic National Convention, being held in
Denver this week, to lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
