Record Crowd at 2008 Iowa State Fair
Posted 25 August 2008
Based on attendance estimates, the
2008 Iowa State Fair boasts the largest crowds in the Fair’s 154-year
history. This year’s estimated attendance was 1,109,150, surpassing the
previous record of 1,053,978 set in 2004. This is the seventh year in a
row the Fair’s attendance has exceeded one million.
The 2008 Fair also boasts the highest attendance ever seen on opening
day, where more than 42,000 people came through the gates before 8:30
a.m. and more than 10,000 Fair fans gathered to set a record for the
most people eating corndogs simultaneously. Above average attendance on
weekdays and unprecedented crowds on the second weekend of the Fair
combined with outstanding programming, grounds improvements and near
perfect weather to best the attendance record.
Final audited attendance figures will be released in late September.
The Iowa State Fair ended last Sunday, Aug. 17.
Next year's fair - “State Fair Time” in 2009 - has been set for August
13-23. For more information, call 800/545-FAIR or visit www.iowastatefair.org
