Just What Is A Quilt Turning Anyway?
Posted 23 August 2008
A "Quilt Turning" is a way of
introducing quilters and non-quilters to the beauty of antique or
unique quilts in an interesting and different way. Visit the 2nd Annual
"Quilt Turning" event next weekend -Labor Day Weekend- Sunday, Aug. 31,
and Monday, Sept. 1, at Heartland Acres Agribition Center in
Independence.
A bed is used as a prop and piled with many quilts. Even the bed
is a unique antique fold-up bed with ornate mirror. As each quilt
is turned the presenter describes the quilt, date of the quilt (if
known) and the story of the quilt. This is NOT your Mother’s BOQP
– Boring Old Quilt Program! This will be a very enjoyable
experience with time to talk to other quilters and collectors.
Vote for your favorite quilt in the “Quilters Challenge” contest.
Have “Coffee In Bed” with us during the weekend. The admission
fee also entitles you to tour the Heartland Acres Agribition Center
where you can view the temporary exhibit “The Heartland – Through An
Artist’s Eyes” featuring displays on Grant Wood and local artists. Make
this a fun afternoon for you and your friends. You can help ‘tie
one on’ (an apron that is) during the program. Something
different to attend on Labor Day weekend, Sunday, Aug. 31, at 1 and 3
p.m. and Monday, Sept. 1, at 1 and 3 p.m. Call 319 334-4616 or
319 332-0123 for further information.
Heartland Acres Agribition Center is located at 2600 Swan Lake Blvd. in
Independence, MHI exit #252 from Highway 20. When you see ‘the
big barn’ with glass silos YOU ARE THERE! The center is
open daily, Monday-Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays, noon to
5 p.m. Visit their website at: www.heartlandacresusa.com
