Semi Strikes Buffalo on I-380 Wednesday
Posted 7 August 2008
A northbound semi carrying a load
of bananas struck a buffalo about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, Aug. 6,
that was in the middle of I-380 in Buchanan County, near Brandon. The
accident caused the semi to spill its load of bananas onto the roadway
creating traffic delays in the area.
The Iowa State Patrol says the buffalo was killed as a result of the
incident, but the semi driver wasn't injured. The semi, carrying
25,00 - 35,000 bananas from Mississippi to Fargo, came to rest across
the southbound lanes of I-380. Boxes of bananas were strewn across the
roadway.
Another driver, unaware of the accident, struck the overturned semi and
the driver of that vehicle had to be taken to the hospital.
Authorities believe there is another bison roaming around in the area,
but they're not sure where the animals came from.
