Flash
Flood Watch as Rain Expected Today
Posted 27 June 2008
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch today for
much of the area through this evening, Friday, June 27. Counties
in the watch area include Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Delaware,
Dubuque, Jackson, Jones and Linn counties.
Periods of thunderstorms are expected to develop and move across
portions of the watch area through this evening. This storm activity
could produce rainfall of 1.5 to 3 inches with locally higher amounts
by last evening.
The ground in the watch area remains saturated from heavy rainfall the
past few nights as well as earlier this month. Any additional heavy
rain will run off quickly. Area rivers and streams, already high, will
experience rising water levels once again.
A Flash Flood Watch means that flash flooding is possible. Area
residents are requested to monitor forecasts and take action of flash
flood warnings are issued or flash flooding develops.
