Two
Injured in Accident Near Hawkeye

Two people were injured in an accident Thursday morning, June 26, near
Hawkeye.
The Iowa State Patrol reports that a Chevy S-10 truck driven by Shirley
Mendez, 70 of Oelwein, was northbound on County Road W-14 shortly after
7 a.m. Thursday morning when it collided with a truck owned by Robert
Wilhelmi of Maynard.
Wilhelmi's vehicle, a Ford F250 truck was stopped along the side of the
road while the driver was checking for possible mechanical problems
with his vehicle.
After the collision, the Mendez vehicle rolled over but landed on its
wheels upright, coming to rest in a nearby ditch.
Mendez and a passenger, Vidal Mendez, 79 also of Oelwein, were both
transported to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. The extent of their
injuries is unknown.
The accident remains under investigation.
