Operation Threshold "Family Nest" Program
This program will be open to income qualifying families with children
ages 0-5 or expectant parents who are residents of Buchanan County. For

Education at Hawkeye Center
Free GED and Adult Basic Education classes are being held at Hawkeye
Community College's Independence Center, located on Jamestown Avenue in
Independence. These classes, sponsored by Hawkeye Community College,
meet
on Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 6 to 8:30 p.m. To enroll call

Fontana Park Wildlife
Need Meat
Do you have some meat in your freezers that is going to waste ? If so
please consider donating it to the animals in the Fontana Park Wildlife

Bingo Every Tuesday in Independence
Bingo is held at the Buchanan County Fair Grounds every Tuesday night
at the
4-H building. It has a progressive jackpot starting $300 and 51 numbers
and reaching $600 as the numbers called progress. Early birds at 6:30
p.m.; regular session starting at 6:45. Concession available
Local Food Pantry Needs Donations
The Independence Area Food Pantry is in need of food and monetary
donations.
The Independence Food Pantry is located at 201 2nd Ave. NE, in

Independence Area Home Show
The Independence Area Chamber of Commerce will host the 5th Annual
local home show next month. The event is scheduled for Friday, February
5 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, February 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.,
and Sunday, February 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The home show will take
place at the Heartland Acre’s Event Center, located at 2600 Swan Lake
Blvd – just off Highway 20, exit 253.

Heartland Acres Agribition Center
Attendees will be served in the Great Spaces in the heart of the
Agribition Center from Iowa wineries Cedar Ridge, Daly Creek, Fireside,
Park Farm, Summerset, Tabor Home, Wide River and Winneshiek Wildberry
and distributors Dimitri, Glazers and Johnson Brothers. The assortment
of wines is wide and varied from the sweet to the very dry.
Along with the wine, there is music, hors d’oeuvres, fellowship and
exhibits for viewing, there will also be a silent auction.
Jon Holland was pleased to present the Independence Area Food Pantry
more than $3,000 from donations received for the 2009 event.
